October 29th, 2005 we went to the San Francisco zoo. We were there for over 3
hrs and only managed to see about 60% (if that) of the zoo.
History: San Francisco has had zoos as far back as 1856. Back then it
consisted mostly of grizzly bears often captured by Grizzly Adams. The San
Francisco Zoo was established in 1929, and was built in the 1930’s and 1940’s as
part of a depression-era Works Progress Administration project. It was
originally called The Herbert Fleishhacker Zoo, after its founder.
