Sarah's personality is becoming more bold, and complex. She reminds me of an aging wine. I may just be saying that because Jennifer and I are enjoying a nice pinot right now (2002 North Coast). But I think the analogy still stands. We can see Sarah's personality forming and adapting on a daily basis. From the beginning she has been very independent. However, as time goes on she's learning how to interact with others, and take advantage of her environment. She loves to help out. She sees Jennifer and I go through our daily habits like cleaning up after dinner, putting away the garbage, etc. Sarah likes to help pick up dishes and tries to put them away. Recently Sarah has been taking on the responsibility of feeding the pets. All by herself she picks up the cat dishes when they're empty and brings them to us. We fill the dish and Sarah takes them back to the kitchen for the cats. She also loves to bring the dog treats. When she gets home she first stops at the dog's treat box, picks out a treat and brings it to Einstein. Einstein is getting used to this and he salivates every time she comes home. Watching her develop is absolutely fascinating. As I'm sure her watching us develop is equally fascinating. Although she doesn't quite have the same baseline to compare. :)

Sarah and David went for a walk today. Sarah loves to run around and explore every nook and cranny along the trail. She seems to be a very curious young lady. A flock of dozens of small black birds flew over head and got her attention. After they went by Sarah ran along the sidewalk, chasing after Jorge. He puts up with her strong pats on his head and ribs. She doesn't know her strength yet.

We spent today at home relaxing and watching events unfold on the TV. Pope John Paul II passed away today. He was 82. The entire World was affected by today's news. He was the 3rd longest serving Pope in history.

Today is Sarah's first birthday! Grandma and Grandpa (Mike and Melanie) flew out from Nashville, Tennessee to celebrate with us. We rented a part room at Round Table Pizza close to where we live. (This way we wouldn't have to cleanup after.) Auntie Wendie and Uncle Bryan showed up early and helped us setup. Uncle Marc came in a little later and played with all of the toys. Anthony, Mary Anne and little Helaina, Patrick and little Ashley, and Jim from work (he bought her a big-eyed monkey). We had fun, and Round Table really did a good job. First year down, many more to come.

Sarah has a new hobby these days. She has learned the cool effects of yelling. She notices how people react when she yells, and the cool sounds yelling makes in large buildings like restaurants. Will she eventually be a singer? Who knows. She's already better than most of the people I've seen on American Idol. Distraction seems to be the best way of preventing her from going on. Right now she's into Cheerios. Well, really she's into anything that she can get hold of. But placing a handful of Cheerios in front of her seems to do the trick.

We finally got around to updating the website. There are some new pictures of Sarah showing her first time to the ocean, first Halloween, and first Christmas. She has almost half her teeth now. It doesn't seem to bother her as much when one comes in. She's also starting to take steps. For the past few months she's been pulling herself up on the table, and other furniture. She's always had the strongest legs. I think she'll be running around the apartment in the next few weeks. Watch out cats!
